And if that’s the case for you, I hope this resource page can help you find support you where music can’t. With all that said, music may not be enough for some. Further to that, rhythm and melodies can help to steer our emotions through these lyrics. Like poetry, the lyrics of a song can help us to make sense of our world – in this case, it can help us process painful memories and experiences. The inspiration behind this post stems from my love for music and the therapeutic gift it offers. As a non-Indigenous ally, I promise to continue listening and learning. To everyone who has reached out to share their stories and share music, I can’t thank you enough. The number of unmarked graves identified at the site of federally run residential schools has grown to more than 1,300 and that number is still expected to rise. UPDATE (September 29, 2021): It’s the eve of the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation and in the past year since I originally made this music blog, so much has come to light and so much more insight has been shared about the pain and trauma from this country’s history. ![]()
